Open Weekend at Fradley Junction
It was a pleasure to work with our neighbours at Fradley Junction by opening the Alrewas Hayes Exclusive Country House Wedding and Events Venue car parks to accommodate the Open Day visitors during the weekend of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th February 2017. The organiser explains in a little more detail :
“I am writing to thank you for supporting our recent open weekend at Fradley Junction.
Over the weekend we had 1,595 visitors go down in to the lock chamber and an estimated 3,200 visitors who didn’t.
This obviously was way in excess to our expectations and some what has blown us away.
Our shuttle bus did 41 trips over the weekend between Alrewas Hayes who had given us kind permission to park visitors cars on their land and the Junction and we managed to sign up 31 friends of The Canal & River Trust. Over £411 raised via our donations tin
Lichfield Lighthouse Company Sea Shanty Singers performed throughout the weekend by singing shantys both in and out of the lock, being the most land lock sea shanty singing group this was a world first and they raised over £120 for RNLI
Along with tours of the lock there were guided nature walks with our eccologists, the Waterway Explorers were on site providing children activities to take part in and the water management team were there talking to visitors about where our water comes from. Lichfield and Hatherton Canal Society and the IWA both had stalls promoting their groups. The Canal Side cafe at Fradley was open for business as well and I saw a few photos of cake on twitter alongside photos from in the bottom of the lock.
Kind Regards and a Massive Thank You
Terry Drake, Customer Services Supervisor, Coventry, Ashby and Trent & Mersey Canals (Great Haywood to Stretton) – West Midlands Waterway.”
We were delighted to be able to help the team at Fradley Junction and would compliment them on such a successful event and congratulate them on their fundraising for such worthy causes.
